Healthy and delicious argan oil recipes

In most countries Argan oil is primarily used for cosmetic purposes, skin and hair care mainly, however here in Morocco, Argan oil is primarily used for culinary purposes, we use it to dip bread and in all kinds of different recipes.

I'm going to give you some of Morroco's healthiest and most delicious Argan oil recipes, they are not only very delicious, but are also very easy to make.

  • The first Argan oil recipe is called Bakkula


Bakkula is the word we use in Morocco to call dishes that are made from dark green leafy vegetables, these dishes are not only very nutritious, but they are also very easy and delicious.

Here are the ingredients to prepare Bakkula:

  1. 400 g of spinach leaves , or mallow leaves is available

  2. 200 g of kale

  3. 4 cloves of garlic

  4. 2 tablespoons of extra virgin Argan oil

  5. half a teaspoon of salt

  6. half a teaspoon of black pepper

  7. half a glass of lemon zest

  8. a quarter of a lime

  9. 1 teaspoon of ground cumin seeds

  10. a quarter of a teaspoon of ground ginger

  11. coriander and parsley, 1 tablespoon each

  12. 1 teaspoon of paprika

  13. half a teaspoon of chili powder or ground cayenne pepper

  14. black or green olives for decoration


Preparation:

Cut the greens into small pieces and put them in a cooking pan, add four tablespoons of water and let them cook on medium fire for six minutes.

Then, crush the garlic cloves and cut them, add them to the pan while stirring, then add the Argan oil, lemon zest, the coriander and parsley, the spices, the salt, and grind the quarter of a lime and add it, stir.

Keep stirring until the water has evaporated, this will take about three to ten minutes, it all depends on the freshness of the greens.

Use the olives for decoration.

  • The second Argan oil recipe is a simple salad.


You will need a cup of diced lettuce, or spinach, kale and even steamed broccoli, a quarter of a teaspoon of black pepper, a pinch of salt, some sesame seeds, preferably roasted, two teaspoons of Argan oil and one teaspoon of vinegar.

First, you need to prepare the vinaigrette.

Beat the Argan oil with the spices, vinegar and the salt for about three minutes.

Take the lettuce and service it in a salad bowl, then mixes with the vinaigrette.

This is a very simple recipe that doesn't demand a lot of time and preparation, yet it is very delicious and healthy.

Don't forget to sprinkle sesame seeds at the end.

  • The third Argan oil recipe is called prune tagine.


This is one of the most famous recipes in Morocco, it can be done in many different ways, but this is the easiest in my opinion.

To prepare this recipe, you will need a Moroccan clay tagine, you can find some very affordable ones at online.

Here are the ingredients you need:

  1. 200 g of lamb

  2. 5 medium red onions

  3. 3 cloves of garlic

  4. coriander and parsley

  5. half a teaspoon of cinnamon

  6. 1 cup of water

  7. four tablespoons of Argan oil

  8. two tablespoons of honey

  9. 10 dried prunes

  10. a quarter of a teaspoon of ground ginger


Preparation:

This recipe is going to take at least two hours to prepare and to cook, but it is totally worth the time spent.

first, on high fire, add three tablespoons of Argan oil to the tagine, add salt and black pepper to it and fry the meat for five minutes, keep stirring until the meat get a nice golden color.

Take the meat of the tagine and add diced onions, stir them in the remaining tagine oil until translucent, then add the spices and a quarter of a teaspoon of cinnamon, add half a cup of water.

Layer the onions evenly and add on top of them the fried meat. Close the tagine and let cook for half an hour.

Meanwhile, take the dried prunes, a tablespoon of argan oil, the remaining cinnamon, a pinch of salt and remaining of water and add them in a cooking pan, cook the dried prunes until very tender, this will take about ten minutes and needs a lot of stirring.

Decorate this tagine with the dried prunes and add the prune sauce on top of the meat and cooked prunes.

This is a very special recipe in Morocco that is usually prepared with olive oil, some people prefer to mix the argan oil with the olive oil, as Argan oil is very expensive, this is absolutely feasible and it will yield a very flavorful recipe.

The fourth Argan oil recipe is a Mediterranean salad.

Whenever tourists come to our farm, one of the most delicious recipes we offer them is this amazing Mediterranean salad, it is very easy to make and is also very nutritious.

Here are the ingredients you need:

  1. Half a cup of cubed courgettes

  2. two big tomatoes

  3. 1 large red onion

  4. 2 cloves of garlic

  5. salt and pepper according to taste

  6. coriander and parsley , one tablespoon each

  7. paprika , two teaspoons

  8. a quarter of a teaspoon of ground cayenne pepper, or chili powder, this is totally optional

  9. cumin, one teaspoon

  10. ground ginger, just a small pinch

  11. half a cup of water

  12. and the key ingredient, one tablespoon of argan oil


Preparation:

First, grate the onion and put it with argan oil in a tagine, then add the herbs, which you will need to cut into very tiny pieces, and spices and then stir fry them for three minutes on low heat.

Meanwhile, grate the tomatoes, while taking away the outer skin, then add them and the cubed courgettes to the tagine and mix everything.

Add half a cup of water and let cook for another ten minutes.

Stir from time to time and tastes for salt and pepper.

This Argan oil recipe is very flavorful and delicious, it will take you about fifteen minutes to prepare, to enjoy it fully, you need to eat it with whole wheat Moroccan bread and mint tea.
